Tukwila International Blvd Phase II & III Closure of South 130th Street at Tukwila Int'l Blvd
5/1/09
We have issued the Notice to Proceed to Gary Merlino construction for work on Tukwila International Blvd Phase 2 & 3 roadway improvements effective April 29, 2009. They are currently gearing up for a full construction season and the north end of the project construction should be well underway by Monday of next week.
In general the construction will progress from the north project limit near the Department of Homeland Security (at the SR599/SR99 interchange) to tie-in with the Phase 1 improvements at 139th/TIB. Most of the initial work will be concentrated on the east side of the roadway with wall construction and storm drain improvements completed the length of the project prior to shifting over to the west side of TIB to complete the remaining items. We expect the construction for the entire project to take nearly two years.
We have temporarily closed through access to/from eastbound 130th at TIB to allow wall construction to take place unimpeded and surface traffic is being detoured to/from TIB via 37th or 40th/42nd Ave S/140th St. This closure will be in place for several months until the 130th intersection has been completely reconfigured. Traffic will then be shifted back to 130th to allow permanent closure of 37th eastbound at TIB. Emergency vehicles, school buses, postal carriers, garbage companies and local residents will still have local access to the closed section and a nearby route will be maintained to and from TIB from both sides at all times.
This project has been a long time coming and we appreciate the patience and cooperation of our local residents and businesses during what is sure to be a complicated project. We will do our best to complete the improvements on time, under budget and with as little disruption to our residents as possible.
Sound Transit Projects
Sound Transit's contractor will be sporadically closing streets in Tukwila throughout it's construction process. Watch the construction signs for current information. These closures are necessary for public safety while the light rail guideway will be crossing public streets.

WSDOT Projects
♦ I-405 and SR 167 Eastside Corridor Tolling Study
WSDOT is considering adding up to two express toll lanes on I-405 that would connect with HOT lanes on SR 167, creating a 50+ mile corridor from Puyallup to Lynnwood. These new lanes would be in addition to existing general purpose traffic lanes. A report will be submitted to the Governor and Legislature in January 2010.
To involve the public and gather feedback, WSDOT is hosting two public open
houses along the Eastside Corridor. Come learn more about the Eastside Corridor Tolling Study and share your thoughts.
