Howard Hanson Dam Flood Watch

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is in the process of evaluating the condition of the earthen right abutment of the Corps’ Howard Hanson Dam, which provides flood risk reduction and water storage on the Green River. Until that assessment can be completed, the Corps of Engineers determined it would be prudent to place restrictions on the pool level for flood storage. While the dam itself is not in immediate danger of failing, there is increased risk to downstream communities until seepage issues with the right abutment have been addressed. Additional information and resources can be found on our Howard Hanson Dam Flood Watch page.

Central Link Light Rail Noise Study

Light Rail service between Tukwila and Seattle started on July 18, 2009. Sound Transit has to monitor noise and vibration impacts for three years from the start of the revenue service. The scope of the monitoring report is available on the Link Light Rail page. If you have questions, comments and/or concerns regarding noise issues associated with Light Rail there is an opportunity to submit your comments online and sign up on our eList.

Tukwila South

Tukwila South will encompass the annexation of approximately 259 acres to the City of Tukwila and the development of 512 acres of land, five minutes from SeaTac International Airport and adjacent to I-5. The boundaries are approximately S 180th Street on the north, the Green River on the east, S 204th Street on the south, and Orillia Road/I-5 on the west.

The project is estimated to provide 25,000 new jobs, add 10 million square feet of occupied space and join the University of Washington, Microsoft and Boeing Everett as the Puget Sound region’s fourth major “non-Central Business District” employment center.

Shoreline Master Program Update

Tukwila is updating its Shoreline Master Program, the land use plan that governs the area within 200 feet of the river's edge on either side of the Green/Duwamish River. Cities and counties in Washington State with lakes and rivers that have been identified as a Shoreline of the State are required to prepare and adopt these plans. The draft document has been posted on the web site and we welcome your review and comments.

Tukwila Urban Center Plan for Southcenter

The City of Tukwila is preparing a draft urban center plan for the Southcenter area - one of the region's primary retail and employment centers. The Plan presents the community's vision for the evolution and continued growth of the area for the next 20 years, and establishes the primary means of regulating land use and development.

Tukwila Village

The City of Tukwila owns six acres in a prime location for a mixed-use, neighborhood center. Tukwila Village will include a branch of the nationally recognized King County Library System and the City's neighborhood police resource center in combination with other retail, office, live/work, or residential space.

Walk & Roll Program

The Walk and Roll Plan is Tukwila’s first pedestrian and bicycle planning document. It provides a way to ensure that all Tukwila residents can know the joy of wandering through our community using trails and sidewalks, and can experience the sense of accomplishment and freedom that comes from being able to walk or bike to school, to work, to the store and the library.
