The Planning Commission is comprised of seven citizens appointed by the Mayor to four-year terms. The Planning Commission performs the following roles for the City:
- Acts as the land use advisory body for the City Council and reviews and makes recommendations to the City Council on the City's Comprehensive Plan, Shoreline Plan, Subdivision, Zoning and Sign Codes.
- Makes decisions on Type 4 permits, which include conditional use permits and reasonable use permits in sensitive areas. They also are the appeal body for Type 1 and Type 2 permits relating to signs and sensitive areas.
- Acts as the City's Board of Architectural Review and reviews and approves the design of new development or substantial changes in existing development.
- Operates under the By-Laws of the Tukwila Planning Commission.
The Planning Commission meets on the fourth Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall. The Planning Commission/BAR Meeting Agenda is available one week prior to the meeting date. These meetings may be cancelled or changed so please call ahead at 206 431-3654 prior to attending. Meetings are run according to by-laws adopted by the Commission.
